are inevitable .

Amaravati: Lab technicians who have to diagnose the disease..ECG and cardiology technicians who are crucial in the diagnosis of fatal heart diseases..Radiation technicians who are very important in cancer treatment..Paramedical staff play a vital role in medical treatment. But the management of paramedical diploma courses to prepare them has become chaotic in the state. Teaching standards are completely left up in the air. No qualified instructors. There will be no labs.. experiments will not be done. Those who come for inspections are given a report that everything is fine. There are criticisms that the quality of these, which are marginal, has completely fallen under Vaikapa’s rule. The new government needs to conduct a study by a special committee to improve the management and teaching standards of these courses and take corrective measures immediately.

Heaps of rafts

16 courses of two years duration are in circulation under Diploma Para Medical. These courses are being conducted in 280 institutions across the state. Most admissions are taking place in 36 institutes in Prakasam district, 26 in East Godavari district and 23 in West Godavari district. Courses like Diploma in Medical Lab Technician, Diploma in Optometry, Dialysis, Cathlab, Radiography, ECG, Cardiology Technician, Respiratory Therapy, Radio Therapy Technician are being conducted. Among these, the admissions in the convener quota are done by the district medical and health department. The admissions in the owner quota are being done under the supervision of the managers of the organizations. Each course has 10-50 seats. As there is no control by the government.. there are regular applications to start the courses widely. Recommendations are coming from leaders of political parties to give permission to them. There is no strict supervision of these courses which prepare para medical personnel who perform vital functions in the medical field. The activities of these institutes are continued through the AP State Allied Healthcare Professions Council. It is also not as robust as it should be as per central government guidelines.

No teachers!

In order to manage the courses, teaching should be done only by those who have completed M.Sc. Especially in laboratories, conducting experiments is a must. A team of professors of the relevant departments of the government medical colleges should carry out inspections in order to give permission for the commencement of new courses and renewals of old courses. All these checks are on paper only. Reports are being given that everything is fine in many places. A PIL has been filed in the High Court against an organization conducting paramedical courses in a petal shed in Nellore district. The management of some institutions in the districts of Sangam Prakasam, Ubhayagodavari, Kurnool, etc. is bad. Some professors are getting thousands of rupees in the guise of these inspections. With this, they are competing that we will go for inspections. If those who come for inspection report that there are defects and do not give permission, then those who come for the next round of inspections are giving reports that everything is fine. On the other hand, there are no changes in the syllabus for the management of these courses. In this context, the coalition government has to take the huge responsibility of thoroughly cleaning the policy and management of paramedical courses.
