Providing proper drinking water facilities to the district must be top priority: Bommai
Gadag:Development works of various projects in the district should proceed at a fast pace and officials from various departments must take an active role and work efficiently, said former Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai.
Speaking at the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting held at the Zilla Panchayat Hall on Monday, he stressed that funds for the MGNREGA scheme are being provided directly, and PDOs and Taluk Panchayat EO should work towards preparing an action plan and implementing it effectively for the improvement of basic amenities in villages.
He urged officials to ensure that the benefits of various departmental schemes reach the intended beneficiaries and asked them to work as a team by adopting a positive approach in their work style to successfully deliver both central and state government schemes.
Bommai said the Jal Jeevan Mission is a flagship scheme of the central government, and while progress has been made, technical issues need to be resolved to ensure a consistent supply of water to every household.
A list of villages facing drinking water problems should be prepared and addressed.Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana,the target from 2016 to 2020 was 5,747 houses, of which 4,855 have been completed,and 892 houses are still pending.A separate meeting should be held to resolve the issues related to this, he added.
The MP said Gadag district has a great potential for horticulture and farmers should be encouraged to increase their income by cultivating horticultural crops. Steps should be taken to ensure that the horticulture sector expands year after year.Jan Aushadhi centers must operate efficiently to benefit the poor.
In response,the district health officials informed the meeting that all Jan Aushadhi centers in the district are functioning properly.
MLC S.V. Sankanur suggested that teachers in primary and secondary schools should work in accordance with student attendance.
He also called for the appointment of guest teachers in schools facing a shortage of staff and emphasized the importance of providing quality education.
The agriculture department officials told the meeting that fertilizers and seeds are being made available in adequate quantities to the farmers in the district and there is no shortage.
The meeting also reviewed the performance of the Women and Child Development Department,District Skill Development Department,HESCOM,and the Food and Civil Supplies Department,among others.
On this occasion,Shirahatti MLA Dr.Chandru Lamani, District Commissioner Govindareddy, Zilla Panchayat CEO Bharat S, Deputy Conservator of Forests Lekhraj, and several other departmental officials were present.
