Bengaluru Special court grants bail to BJP MLA Munirathna in rape case

After nearly a month stay in Central prison of Parappana Agrahara,the Special Court for MP/MLA granted conditional bail to RR Nagar MLA,Munirathna on Monday .

Munirathna who was arrested by Kaggalipura police on September 21 minutes after he stepped out of Parappana Agrahara Prison on bail after spending three days of judicial custody in connection with an SC/ST atrocity case .

Considering the magnitude of the case,the state government formed SIT for a detailed probe .

While granting the bail on a personal bond of 1 lakh with two sureties the court has directed him not to hamper the investigations and co operate with the investigators .

The court was also granted anticipatory bail to other accused in the case identified as Lohit,Kiran and Manjunath,who are booked on the charged of abetting Munirathna in executing the crime .

Munirathna was arrested by Kaggalipura police soon after he stepped out on the prison on bail based on the complaint filed by a 40-year-old social worker accusing Munirathna of raping her on multiple occasions, blackmail and threatening her with dire consequences .

The police made the complainant undergo a medical examination and later recorded her confession statement before a magistrate.

The police also visited a godown,where the woman claimed that Munirathna allegedly assaulted her sexually.

This is the third criminal case against Munirathna since September 13.Kaggalipura police have invoked IPC sections related to rape,sexual harassment,voyeurism, criminal intimidation, and extortion,among other offences while six others have been charged with abettment and conspiracy .
