Court orders prison department to probe mobile usage in prison by inmates

Taking a strong exception to inmates lodged in central prison in a murder case,accessed to mobile phones to issue threats to the witness of the murder case,the city civil and session court court on Monday directed the prison department to probe in detail.

During the hearing of the murder case,the wife and prime witness of the case told the court that she is getting threats from the accused who killed her husband in broad day light in the bank in Koramangala in July 2021.It may be recalled that Jospeh Bali a rowdy sheeter was hacked

The accused who are presently in prison threatened Murugesh,friend of the deceased to inform the witnesses on voice message threatening them with dire consequences if they depose before the court.

Taking a note on this,the court pointed out the lapses on part of the prison superintendent for allowing mobile phone access to the inmates who are sending threat messages to the witnesses.

The court also directed the Investigating officials to provide necessary security cover to the witnessed till the conclusion of the trail .

It may be recalled that 35-year-old history-sheeter, Joseph Babli,resident of Rajendranagar slum was chased by armed men and hacked to death in front of his wife and minor daughter inside the bank in Koramangala 8th block due to old rivalry.

The police in a swift action arrested the accused and remanded them to judicial custody.Since the evidence against the accused are strong,they are threatening the witnessed to derail the trail,a senior officer,said .

Fearing for their live Murugesh,an autorickshaw driver stopped going to work while his wife a prime witness in the case facing hardship to visit the court and depose .

There were several rowdies and goons gather in the court hall to create fear psychosis to the witnesses. When this was brought to the notice of the court which has directed the advocate representing the accused to issue necessary directions to refrain them from such activities .

The CCB officials who is presently probing the case have taken the accused into custody for further investigations to ascertain how they accessed the phones and how are they using it despite high security and state of art jammers .

Meanwhile the prison officials continue to recover mobile phones from prison while conducting surprise checks .

Assistant Superintendent of Prison,Imamsab Myageri who along with his staff conducted the checks recovered the phones with SIM cards at the B Barrack , handed it over to Parappana Agarahara police on Monday .
