Malleshwaram cafe blast terror accused Zulfikhar who is presently lodged in Kalaburagi district prison is running a sextortion racket along with a local rowdy from inside the prison.
The accused along with Rowdy Bacchan facilitated a video call and forced his cell mate identified as Sagar to chat with an unknown woman.
The private chat was later recorded and the duo blackmailed Sagar to pay Rs.50,000 and threatened to make the video public if he failed to pay.
Worried Sagar managed to inform his brother and who in turn brought it to the notice of the prison authorities .
Initial probe revealed that Zulfikhar and Bacchan had made many such videos and blackmailed other inmates demanding money.
This has also exposed the lapses on the part of the prison authorities on how the duo accessed the mobile phone inside the prison this incident came to light few days after Police Commissioner,Dr.SD Sh
aranappa Dhage raided the jail after video clips of inmates at the Kalaburagi Central Jail situated on the outskirts of the city leading a luxurious life in the prison went viral on social media.
An FIR has also been filed at the Farhatabad Police Station following suspicion that some of the prisoners were indulging in illegal activities.
Assistant Police Commissioner,Kannika Sikrewal led the team of more than 50 police personnel,which searched the Central Jail premises for more than four hours on Monday night,found and confiscated two mobile phones, rods,beedi butts,gutkha and cigarette packets, the Commissioner said.
The clips showed three prisoners Vinod,Sagar and Sonu using smart phones and having video calls with their associates.
While the prisoners are also seen in the clips consuming alcohol and narcotics,Dr.Dhage added that the investigation team did not found Narcotics during the raid.
In addition,DGP,Malini Krishnamurthy has paid a sudden visit to Kalaburagi Central Jail,following the suspicion that inmates at the jail are leading a luxurious life.
When asked about the viral video clips,the Central Jail authorities denied giving prisoners VIP treatment and said that they too are probing the matter related to the video clips.
