Out to fetch water,2 minor siblings drowned in Bengaluru’s Kengeri lake

fter many hours of search, the fire and emergency service personnel on tuesday recovered 13-year-old boy and his 11-year-old sister drowned in the Kengeri Lake on Monday night when they had gone to fetch water.

Srinivasan and his sister Laxmi had been reported missing. After a three-hour-long search operation, the Fire Department personnel recovered the boy’s body on Tuesday.The search for Laxmi was continuing

Nagamma,who is a widow, lives in a house next to the lake.She was at work when the children drowned.When Nagamma returned from work,she searched for children and eventually found her son’s clothes.She immediately informed the police helpline and the fire and emergency rescue personnel rushed to the spot.

An officer stated that the lake depth near the banks is approximately 5 feet, where children often pluck lotus flowers to sell.

However, the lake has recently been revived, causing the depth to drop sharply to 15 feet just a short distance away. The officer said that silt has made it challenging to recover the bodies.

The deceased is Johnson Srinivas and his sister is Lakshmi staying near the lake went to fetch water and ventured into the water to the pot and drowned since they did not know swimming.

The victims are living with their mother,Nagamma,who was away at work from home when the incident occurred.

The rescue operations commenced soon after Fire and emergency service rescue team arrived and later called off due to bad light and bad weather .

The operation resumed early Tuesday morning and after five hours of search recovered the body of both siblings

The Kengeri police registered a case and started a probe. Spread over 32.16 acres near the Vrishabhavathi river basin, the Kengeri lake is adopted and maintained by the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL).
