The Tilaknagar police in Tumakuru district busted a drug racket and arrested two including owner of a medical store for selling anti depressident and pain killer tablets used by the addicts as alternative to drugs .
The accused Abdul Khadar,owner of AN medical store and his associates Beeresh Honnaraju were arrested red handed and seized Rs.56,000 worth tablets from them.
The racket came to light when the police who were patrolling at the specific hang outs of the addicts found used syringes and tablets sheets instead of cigarette butts and began a details probe,Ashok KV, superintendent of police,said.
After a series of follow up led them to zero in on Beeresh who was supplying tablets to the addicts for exorbitant rates.
These tablets are sold strictly under priscription but the accused were sourcing these tablets in bulk and selling it to addict for ₹1000 per sheet against the actual price of ₹370 per sheet,a senior police officer, said.
The tablets are supposed to take it with water but the addicts would dilute with water and inject it,he added.
The sale of tablets are on the rise after the district police stepped up vigil and sealed the possible entry and exit points of the drug supply.
With this case,the police have stepped up investigation to track down other accused who are selling tablets to addicts in and around the district.
