Haveri (Shiggaon):In Haveri district, hundreds of farmers have been issued notices regarding the changes in land records by the Deputy Commissioner,Assistant Commissioner, and Tahsildars.
These notices be immediately withdrawn, said Former Chief Minister and Member of Parliament Basavaraj Bommai .
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday,he highlighted that the Haveri Deputy Collector has issued notices to farmers in the Shiggaon,Savanur,Hirekerur, Byadagi,Hangal, and Rattihalli taluks on August 23.
These notices reference only survey numbers, with no clarity on whose names are to be recorded in the gazette.
Notices were issued in areas such as Mugali Katti, Hunagund,Bannur, and Bellakoppa, purportedly creating confusion and disturbing peace and harmony.
Before taking any decision, precautionary measures should be considered,or else it looks like a political approach.
Bommai noted that notices were also served to the HESCOM Executive Engineer’s office, asking them to conduct repairs on properties classified as Waqf assets.
He named locations where there were attempts to change ownership records for lands under the names of farmers such as Hazrat Ahmad Sahayath of Savanur, Gudisagar Shrikant Veerappagowda, Siddavva Gadigeppa of Haveri, and Sandeep Savur.
The Muslim organizations are attempting to alter property records, even for lands owned by Muslim individuals.
The MP cited a previous instance where, during the establishment of a 220 KV station in Shiggaon, there was a dispute over Waqf assets, which the court resolved.
Notices have now been issued to 376 farmers in Shiggaon and Savanur.Referring to the land as Waqf property would essentially lock out these farmers who have been cultivating the land for centuries, barring them from cultivation or sale.
The government is trying to create chaos under the guise of Waqf property, and it is directly responsible for the present situation.
The former CM also criticized the government’s alleged anti-farmer policies, asserting that while the government blames the opposition for creating issues, the opposition’s role is to bring attention to the government’s anti-people policies.
The government should immediately withdraw the notices issued to farmers and remove the Waqf asset classification from their records.
The central government is considering amendments to the Waqf Act,and a joint parliamentary committee has already been set up.
There is a possibility that the amendment bill will be presented in the upcoming winter session.
