External Affairs Minister Jaishankar stated that India and China have made some progress in the withdrawal of forces along the Line of Actual Control. This is a welcome development. He made these comments while speaking at a conference of expatriate Indians in Australia on Sunday. “You know that our relationship has been severely strained due to various reasons. We have made some progress in the withdrawal of forces. China has deployed its forces along the de facto line at a level unprecedented before 2020. We have deployed in return. During this time, our relations were strained in other respects as well. It remains to be seen what direction our relations will take after the withdrawal of forces. The withdrawal is a welcome development. This will open doors to other opportunities,” the minister said. Jaishankar also responded to the crisis in West Asia. “Currently, efforts are being made to prevent the conflict from spreading. A big gap is that Iran and Israel do not talk directly. Various countries are trying to reduce this. We are also in it,” he said. Speaking on the Ukraine-Russia war, Jaishankar said that Prime Minister Modi is talking to the leaders of both countries personally.
