Basavaraj Bommai accuses COVID allegations of silencing opposition leaders
Hubballi:Former Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai has alleged that there is a fierce competition among Congress leaders to distribute money in the Shiggaon by-election,with community-based MLAs leading the distribution efforts and this kind of large-scale money distribution has never been seen before.
Speaking to the media in Hubballi on Sunday,he claimed that this by-election is BJP versus Bommai, and that the government is distributing the money looted from public funds.
Asked about the Congress leaders’ accusations that the BJP is politicizing the suicide of a farmer in Hangal, the MP said farmer’s land was recorded as Waqf property, and he had been trying to remove it for four to five years.
The farmer, knowing he wouldn’t receive justice from the Waqf board, took his own life, mand the farmer’s family had written that this was the reason behind the suicide.
Bommai said that withdrawing the notice served to farmers is just an eye-wash and that until the government revokes the gazette notification,it will not benefit farmers in any real way.
PPE Kit Procurement as Per Law
Responding to questions about the COVID scandal, the former CM said during the COVID crisis, there were no PPE kits available, and people were dying.
It was an emergency situation, and doctors couldn’t work without PPE kits.Besides, there was fear that people would die without the kits,so they procured them from wherever they could find them.
It was during a period declared as a national disaster and that the decision was taken to save lives, which was lawful.
However, the incumbent government is using this issue politically during election times, even though the report is yet to be accepted officially, and it was leaked to the public.
He said the government is trying to suppress the voice of the opposition and that such attempts will not succeed.
