In an effort to bring down rising number of violations and enforce discipline among the delivery executives, the traffic police on Saturday carried a special drive and booked 2670 violations and collected a fine of Rs.13.7 lakh from them.
Riding without helmet topped the list of highest violations with 1400 cases followed by riding against one way and no entry .
Jumping traffic signals and riding on footpath, wrong parking and using mobile phones while riding are the other violations charged against them,a senior officer, said.
This special drive is to create awareness and ensure their safety as deterrence rather than punishing them and collecting fines,MN Anucheth,Joint Commissioner of Police Traffic, told reporters.
Vinay Sarathy,President of United Food Delivery Partners Association, told media persons that the association do not have any issues with the special drive against the delivery executives but the concerned agency should focus on the real issue .
The deadline offered by different companies like 10 minutes and 30 minutes with a scheme of free of cost if the deadline do not meet. There is no clarity on the bill and the onus is on the delivery executives .
Due to this the delivery executives had to race against the time and invariably violate traffic rules to meet the deadlines.
This way they would risk their life and if caught end up paying their whole day earning towards the fine, Mr. Sarathy, said .
The road condition and the city traffic add to the worst and it is really a challenged for around one lakh food delivery executives to sustain.
The government should ensure companies free food schemer within the short deadlines to also ensure safety and well being of the food delivery workers .
