Bommai seeks re-examination of Congress candidate’s nomination in Shiggaon constituency
Haveri (Shiggaon):In the wake of the Haveri SP, indicating indicated that there is an open “rowdy sheet” against the Congress candidate in the Shiggaon-Savanur constituency,which implies there are several cases still pending against him,a complaint will be filed with the Central Election Commission,said former Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai.
Speaking at a press conference in Shiggaon on Monday, he said the Congress candidate had declared in an affidavit last year that he had 17-18 cases against him.
Now,he claims none of those are applicable.However, the Haveri District Superintendent of Police has confirmed that there are still open cases against the Congress candidate which means the pending cases against him.
Bommai said the former MLA of Shiggaon,Ajjampir Khadri had previously described the Congress candidate as a rowdy before the election,but later joined hands with him.Such statements cannot be taken with a pinch of salt.
The election officials must take a re-look into the papers filed by the Congress candidate.The pending 17 cases included,a rape case.
The poll officials have not gone through the nomination papers thoroughly due to government pressure.Now that the SP has stated that there are open cases against him, legal experts will be consulted in regard to filling a plaint with the Election Commission today itself.
The MP demanded that the Haveri Deputy Commissioner should take immediate action regarding this matter.
The election officer has a significant responsibility,and they should conduct a thorough examination and take prompt action.
The truth should be made known to the public; otherwise,officials could find themselves in a difficult position.
First, we will file a complaint with the Election Commission and then pursue legal action.The Congress candidate will be charged of deceiving the public with a false affidavit demand an investigation into the matter”.
The former CM said the public should decide whom they want to elect—whether someone who serves the people or someone who misleads them.
Asked about the Congress candidate’s involvement in converting agricultural land into real estate, Bommai sais while real estate might be his profession, if this continues unchecked, all land will be sold off.
