KOLKATA:A Trinamool Congress councillor from South Kolkata’s Kasba,Sushanta Ghosh,narrowly escaped a murder attempt on last Friday evening after the shooter’s gun misfired.
A Trinamool councillor of Kolkata Municipal Corporation’s Ward 108 Susanta Ghosh survived a murder attempt by a supari killer from Vaishali,Bihar as the shooter’s gun malfunctioned.The incident took place at Kasba area of South Kolkata.
The murder attempt was caught on the CCTV camera where it was recorded that two shooters arrived on a scooty bike.
The councillor was sitting near his house when out of two shooters,one tried to shoot him twice but couldn’t succeed.
Eventfully, Susanta Ghosh tried to catch hold the shooter and he tried to escape but localities caught him. Following the incident, locals handed him over to the Kolkata Police,who then arrested him.He has been identified as Yuvraj Singh while person who accompanied him is Iqbal.
On Saturday, police arrested another suspect in connection with the attack taking the total number of arrested accused to two.
The shooter have confessed that he was just told by one Mohammod Iqbal had hired him to shoot Susanta Ghosh. A photo of Susanta Ghosh was given to him by Md Iqbal. He was later handed over to the police.
The shooters were hired from Bihar to kill the councillor, police sources confirmed.The shooters name is Yuvraj Singh.After interrogation,detectives make sensational claims in the attack on the Trinamool councilor.
The mastermind of the attack is not Mohammad Iqbal alias Gulzar, but someone else is behind it! Such is the assumption of the investigators and they believe that someone close to the councilor may be behind it.
So far,the police have arrested three people, including the attacker Yuvraj,in connection with the attack.Taxi driver Ahmed Khan is among those arrested.
Gulzar was arrested by the police from Burdwan Golsi on Saturday. It is known that after coming from Bihar, Yuvraj used to stay in a flat in Kalindi plot in North Kolkata.
Yuvraj used to stay in the flat of a man named Pappu Singh.Police arrested Pappu Singh from Kalindi after receiving the news.
It has been reported that the residents of Kalindi plot area are in panic over the incident of providing shelter to the contract killer.
Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma visited the spot on Saturday morning to inspect the area.
