Major Engineering Seat-Blocking Scam Uncovered by Malleswaram Police&arrested 10 member gang including KEA Contractual employee recovered 13 mobile phones

T he Malleswaram police have arrested a gang of 10 people including the contract employee of a Karnataka Examination Authority,involved in engineering seat blocking racket.

The accused has been identified as Sriharsha,42, Prakash SR,42,Puneeth SL,27,Shashikumar SK,34, Purushotham,24,Avinash BS,36,Tilak G,60,Ravishankar SC,(56),Dilshad Alam,33 and Noushad Alam,(42).

The police have also recovered 13 mobile phones,three laptops and other documents the accused had set it on fire to destroy as soon as the scam broke out.The recovered material have been sent to FSL for analysis .

The accused according to city police Commissioner B. Dayananda are habitual offenders involved in similar offences which is being probed .

Explaining the modus operandi,Mr.Dayanand said that the accused would source the details of the 52 engineering seats which have not been taken using the login password and secret key of the candidates to help city based colleges.

The accused working in KEA would share the details of the candidates with the accused to run the racket .

Explaining the other form of racket, Mr.Dayananda, said that the accused would rope in some meritorious students to write entrance exam to get seats and used their login and password details to block the seats .

The accused according to the police were also running the racket in blocking the nursing course seats and other professional courses which is being probed .

The racket came to light when Administrative officer of KEA,Islahuddin J Gadiyal,came across 52 engineering governments seats have been manipulated and blocked to help BMS engineering college,Akash Institute of Engineering,New Horizon Engineering college to sell it in management quota,and filed a complaint with the police on November 13,this year.

Based on the complaint,the Malleswaram police track down the accused from different places including goa, Shivamogga,Davanagere,Kadur and Bengaluru from where they were operating .

This has not only amount to cheating the entire KEA exam process but also depriving the seats for the eligible candidates he added.
