Emmanuel Macron |: It is known that the government of Prime Minister Michel Barnier has collapsed in a no-confidence motion brought in the French parliament. In this process, the opposition is demanding that President Emmanuel Macron step down. Macron has stated that he will not step down from his responsibilities and will soon appoint a new prime minister. He addressed the nation from the Elysee Palace.

“I will appoint a prime minister in the coming days. I will fulfill the mandate you gave me to govern for five years. I have the responsibility to lead the country forward, while running all the systems properly.. protecting the people. We are moving forward in the face of many obstacles such as social crises, inflation, Covid. We have done the impossible. The 30 months ahead of us must be useful for the country,” Macron said. Meanwhile, he asked Barnier to continue in his caretaker post until a new government is formed.

Last July, President Emmanuel Macron appointed Barnier as the new prime minister. In the process, he recently introduced a no-confidence motion in parliament against his government. Out of 577 votes in the assembly, 331 votes were cast against the prime minister. It is noteworthy that this is the first time in 60 years that a no-confidence motion against the government has been won in the National Assembly. He has been prime minister for only three months. Barnier also became the shortest-serving prime minister.
