ew Delhi:Former Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai condemned the state government for ordering a lathi-charge on the peaceful protest by the Panchamasali community demanding 2A reservation and called it an unforgivable mistake for which the government will have to pay the price.
Speaking to the media in New Delhi on Tuesday,he said this is yet another instance of the anti-people stance of this government.
They have taken multiple actions against farmers, failed to provide relief during floods and droughts, and discontinued several schemes the previous BJP government had implemented.
The incumbent government has stopped the Prime Minister’s Kisan Samman scheme and the Raitha Vidyanidhi scheme, which he introduced for farmers’ children. This government is anti-farmer and anti-people.
Referring to the lathi-charge,the MP said a Chief Minister who claims to stand for social justice should have resolved the demand for increased reservation for backward classes in a fair and satisfactory manner.
The Panchamasali Peetha’s Swamiji has repeatedly stated that the government is neglecting them. Now,by resorting to lathi-charges on protesters and spilling their blood, the government has committed an unpardonable crime.
The state government will have to bear the consequences.Such misuse of police power and violence cannot continue for long.
Appeasement politics
Bommai slammed the Chief Minister,Siddaramaiah and said his successor claims to have issued an affidavit on increasing reservation, but it was the BJP government that raised the Veerashaiva Lingayat community’s reservation from 5 per cent to 7 per cent and the Vokkaliga community’s from 4 per cent to 6 per cent. Why will we obstruct our own order?.
It was Siddaramaiah’s supporters who approached the court, leading to a stay.We had prepared for a comprehensive argument in the Supreme Court,
which postponed the hearing in June 2023.
Until the next hearing,we had clearly stated that the order would not be implemented. We never said we would withdraw the order permanently.”
He said despite knowing this,Siddaramaiah misled the assembly by claiming to read out the Supreme Court’s order.
The government is showing no genuine concern. They are engaging in vote-bank politics and failing to clarify their stand.Misleading actions like these must stop.
The former CM accused the government of unfairly denying the Panchamasali community’s rightful demands due to appeasement politics.
If the CM properly reads and understands the affidavit they submitted, everything will be clear. Opposition parties have already raised this issue, and the truth must not be distorted.
