When honesty and discipline become a way of life, success follows naturally,” remarked Padma Shri awardee and former international wicketkeeper Syed Kirmani at the inauguration of the Diamond Jubilee Sports Meet,held at the BEL Ground in BEL Circle.
The event marks the 60th anniversary of the Bengaluru Water Board.
Highlighting the importance of sports,Kirmani described it as a symbol of happiness and health.”Health is not just fortune; it is wealth.
Good health provides the foundation to walk the right path in life,”he said.He stressed the importance of daily exercise,recommending at least 50 minutes of physical activity to maintain well-being.
Kirmani also underscored the value of true sportsmanship,advising against jealousy and emphasizing the need to encourage and support talented athletes.
“Good habits and a spirit of encouragement can create great athletes who not only bring glory to the country but also achieve personal growth,” he added.
“Turning Challenges into Victories”
Dr.V.Ram Prasath Manohar,Chairman of the Bengaluru Water Board, reflected on the organization’s six decades of progress, comparing its journey to the ups and downs of life.
Winning and losing are natural, but the Water Board has consistently demonstrated its ability to turn defeats into victories,” he said.
Drawing parallels to India’s historic 1983 Cricket World Cup win, Dr. Manohar highlighted how such achievements build self-confidence and lay the foundation for greater successes in sports and beyond.
He announced that, following the directives of Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, cash prizes will be awarded to the winning teams: Rs.1 lakh for the champions, Rs.50,000 for the runners-up, and Rs.25,000 for the third-place teams.Volleyball tournament winners will receive similar awards.
Three Days of Celebration and Competition
The Diamond Jubilee Sports Meet,held at the BEL Ground in Jalahalli, will span three days and include competitions such as cricket, volleyball, throwball, shuttle badminton, and running.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Chief Administrative Officer and Secretary Madan Mohan, Principal Chief Engineer Suresh, Chief Engineers Rajiv K.N., B.C. Dalayath, K.N. Paramesh, and Jayashankar, Financial Advisor and Chief Accountant Subbaramayya, along with Bengaluru Water Board Employees Association President B.K. Mariyappa,Secretary Govindaraju,Sanitary Union President Siddappa,and other senior officers, engineers, and staff of the Board.
