DGP Prison ordered a probe into death of three convicts after consuming essence while preparing cakes at Mysuru Central Prison

The Director General,prisons and Correctional services has ordered a probe into the death of three convicts after consuming essence while preparing cakes at central prison in Mysuru in December 26.

The deceased identified as Ramesh,28,Madesha,32 and Nagaraj,36,were allotted work in the bakery unit of central prison took ill after consuming essence.They were admitted to KR Hospital where they succumbed .

All three were involved in the preparation of the bulk cake orders received at the bakery outlet of Mysuru Central Prison for Christmas.

Madesha and Nagaraja were convicted for life term in two different murder cases (IPC section 302).Ramesh was convicted for 10 years in a rape case (IPC section 306).

Three cases of un natural deaths have been registered at Mandi police station followed preliminary report conducted and a report submitted to the DG prisons .

Based on the report a departmental inquiry has been ordered headed by a retired principal district and session judge as enquiry officer .

The Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) visited the prison and recommended installation of CCTV cameras in the bakery and other units of Mysuru Central prison

The inquiry found negligence on part of the two prison staff and action would be taken accordingly .

The DG prisons has issued directions to the chief superintendents of all the prisons to prevent such incidents in prison in future .
