DISHA Committee Meeting:MP Basavaraj Bommai urged officials to achieve financial and physical targets in implementing the people welfare schemes

G adag:Government departments must achieve the financial and physical targets set for the implementation of various schemes,ensuring that the benefits effectively reach the common people,stated MP Basavaraj Bommai.

Presiding over the DISHA Committee meeting held here on Friday,he underscored the proper implementation of central and state government schemes so that the benefits reach the eligible beneficiaries.

Regarding sites allocation,the MP sought an update on the number of plots distributed and those remaining,as per the previous meeting’s discussion.

When Urban Development Authority Executive Engineer Sharanappa provided incomplete information,he warned that attending meetings unprepared with inadequate data was unacceptable.

He pointed out that 4,548 houses were approved in the last 10 years but remained incomplete and questioned officials about the inefficiency, asking who was responsible for the delays.

He inquired about the 385 incomplete houses in Mundargi and 129 in Nargund and whether officials had discussed the matter with the MLAs concerned.

He stressed that delays due to inefficiency should not hinder public access to government schemes.

Regarding the water supply for Gadag-Betageri twin cities, Municipal Commissioner Rajaram Pawar informed the meeting that water is currently supplied every 5-6 days and that a plan for pipeline and valve installation was being prepared.

In response,Bommai pointed out that some areas receive water only once every 15 days,while others receive it every 5-6 days.

With summer approaching,he urged authorities to ensure a regular water supply at least once every three days.

The MP stressed the need to identify villages where toilet construction has not yet started and encourage gram panchayats to expedite the process.

Regarding the Jal Jeevan Mission,a flagship initiative of the central government,the former CM expressed concern that while tap connections were installed in villages,many remained non-functional.He instructed the Zilla Panchayat CEO to ensure clean drinking water for every household.

Highlighting Gadag district’s access to Tungabhadra and Malaprabha rivers, Bommai stressed the potential for horticulture and urged officials to develop the district into a horticultural hub.

For schools in underdeveloped taluks, he directed that even after appointing guest teachers,expert faculty should be arranged for subjects like science, mathematics,and English.He assured that funds for this initiative would be provided through a trust.

During the meeting,discussions were held regarding various departments,including the Health Department, Women and Child Development Department, and Welfare Department.

Bommai reiterated that providing employment, electricity,healthcare,education,and essential infrastructure to the people of Karnataka was the government’s primary goal,ensuring that every program contributes to human development.

Nargund MLA C.C.Patil suggested that for the municipal administration to function effectively, direct illegal water connections to the main pipeline should be cut off.

He stressed that preventing water wastage would help ensure regular supply.He also noted that the central government had approved training programs for farmers in Nargund constituency,urging officials to commence training at the earliest.

MLA Dr.Chandru Lamani emphasized the need for appointing doctors at Primary Health Centers (PHCs) in Bellatti,Bannikoppa,and Hebbal villages as previously discussed, ensuring access to medical services for rural residents.
