Habitual offender arrested by Kunigal police for robbing and cheating elderly woman on pretext of getting personal loan

The Kunigal police on Saturday arrested a 35-year-old habitual offender who had robbed and elderly woman luring her into personal loan offer in January this year.

The victim.Jayamma 65, resident of Surenahalli village had come to visit her daughter and returning home she was waiting for the bus at the bus stand when the accused confronted her claiming representative of a finance company and offered loan worth lakh.

He asked her to pay the processing charges to get the loan at the earliest when jayamma said that she did not have the money to pay,he lured her to pawn her ear studs for a thousand to pay the processing fee and get them back as soon as she gets the loan amount.

Trusting him Jayamma allowed him to remove the ear studs worth 50,000 and the accused got her into the bus and escaped saying he will be get back.

After reaching home Jayamma realized she was conned and informed her son.

Based on the complaint, the Kunigal police verified CCTV footage and identified the accused as sampath,a cab driver from Mysuru and arrested him .

The accused is habitual offender involved in similar offences,a senior officer,said.The accused have nine cheating cases pending against him in and around mysuru ,Bengaluru and Tumakuru district.

He would move around the bus stand targeting gullible people especially senior citizens travelling alone. Police have advised people not to entertain strangers while travelling alone .
