Haveri:Former CM and Haveri-Gadag MP Basavaraj Bommai reiterated that no matter whether in power or not, he will always raise my voice in support of farmers.
Speaking after receiving petitions from protesting farmers in Haveri on Monday,he praised the district’s farmers for highlighting crucial agricultural issues and urging the government to take action.
Regarding compensation for crop damage,Bommai said a new directive has been issued to conduct crop surveys at the initial stage and provide relief accordingly.
An order to this effect has been passed in November to immediately grant 25 per cent compensation for crop loss.
He would soon discuss the matter with Union ministers and officials concerned to determine necessary modifications and pressure them for appropriate action.
The MP said before approaching the Union government, approval must be obtained from the State High-Level Committee,which oversees insurance matters.
This matter will be discussed with the state agriculture minister, the agriculture department commissioner, and secretaries to ensure swift approval from the committee.
Once approved at the state level,the same will be taken before the the central government and push for required changes in policies.
Bommai pointed out that 90 per cent of crop insurance claims in Karnataka have come from Haveri district, which is a positive indication that farmers were aware of and utilizing central government schemes.
All efforts will be made to ensure that farmers will receive the full benefits of these schemes.
Bommai also promised to talk about securing compensation for damage to ginger crops,and saif that he would urge the central government to follow the same relief model used in 2015-16 after obtaining approval from the state government.
Bommai also emphasized the need for an uninterrupted power supply for farmers’ pump sets and vowed to meet with the energy minister to exert pressure on the state government to ensure a consistent electricity supply within a fixed schedule.
The MP promised farmers that he would address issues related to the Bedthi and Varada rivers’ water supply, emphasizing the need for solutions to the region’s irrigation challenges.
