H averi:Former Chief Minister and Member of Parliament Basavaraj Bommai directed officials to complete the multi-village drinking water projects in Tadas,Anoor, and Hansabhavi by the end of May on a priority basis.

During the DISHA (District Development and Monitoring Committee) meeting held at the Zilla Panchayat on Monday,he reviewed the progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission project with officials.

Expressing concern over the slow progress of the drinking water project, which began over two and a half years ago,he slammed the officials for their lack of responsibility.

“If you are not concerned about the progress of the drinking water project, what work are you doing? If you are not interested in working, request a transfer and go elsewhere.”

Progress reports every fortnight

The MP said crores of rupees have been spent on the Jal Jeevan Mission, yet people are not receiving water. Simply installing pipelines is not enough;quality work must be ensured.

It is high time officials stop making excuses, conduct site inspections instead of sitting in offices, identify and resolve issues, and ensure that every village receives water.

There should be no complaints about any village being deprived of water and ordered officials to submit a progress report every 15 days.

Big project

Highlighting the massive scale of the project, Bommai stressed the need for effective implementation to supply clean drinking water to rural areas. The officials must focus on results rather than excusesThe Chief Executive Officer must conduct surprise inspections of project sites to assess the work.

Road works

Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), ₹20 crores have been spent on road construction. However, some roads remain scientifically unplanned and unused by the public.

The officials must ensure that road construction is planned in consultation with local representatives to meet public needs.

Survey for new road works

The MP said under the PMGSY, funds are sanctioned in phases, with subsequent phases receiving approval only after the previous phase is completed.

Officials must survey villages with a population of 5,000 or more that lack connectivity to nearby villages and submit the report to the state government for further action.

Proposal for extra beds

Reviewing district health conditions, the former CM discussed maternal and infant mortality rates with health officials.

He directed them to submit a proposal for an additional 30 ICU beds in the district hospital and 5 ICU beds in each taluk hospital to address ICU bed shortages. He also emphasized taking preventive measures to reduce maternal and infant mortality.

Review of Various Development Schemes:

Bommai reviewed the progress of housing schemes, Swachh Bharat Mission, and MGNREGA and insisted that officials meet their targets within the stipulated time.

There may be a hundred reasons to delay work, there is no excuse for not completing it. He reminded officials that it is their responsibility to ensure that central and state government schemes reach the last person in society and urged them to work positively toward that goal”.

Commitment

He asserted that Haveri district should not lag in any sector, including agriculture, healthcare, education, women and child development, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and backward classes welfare. He urged everyone to work enthusiastically for the district’s progress.
