50-year-old man allegedly bludgeoned his wife in a drunken state and his family tried to cremate the body in the outskirts of Doddaballapur on Wednesday.
The Doddaballapur Rural police rushed to the spot and stopped the deceased Radhamma’s family from cremating her after receiving a tip-off.They found that the 45-year-old woman was murdered by her husband Lakshmaiah.
On the night of February 23,the drunk suspect had attacked Radhamma.He grabbed her hair smashed her head against the wall and beat her multiple times using an electric heating coil,senior officer said.
The accused soon fled away after leaving Radhamma in a pool of blood,following which she succumbed due to excessive bleeding.
The next day,her family and relatives decided to cremate her fearing ill repute in Neraleghatta village,where they lived before someone alerted the police control room.
A Hoysala patrolling team stopped the cremation and subsequently,a team led by Doddaballapur Rural Police Inspector,Sadiq Pasha found that Radhamma was murdered.Her husband who was at large,was subsequently arrested.
Probe revealed that few months ago,it was learnt that the suspect had received around five lakh after selling a plot of land he owned and blew the money by drinking.
While one of the couple’s sons died some time ago due to health complications,the second son aged 23 and mute,works in KR Puram in a data entry job,the police found.
