ours after Ranya Rao was remanded to judicial custody,the prison officials have given 2198 under trial prisoner number and sent her to women barrack cell where she is being lodged with other inmates to serve 14 days judicial custody.
The prison officials considering shifting her to separate cell in case of security reasons.

Meanwhile her family and DGP Ramachandra Rao remained tight lipped while the directorate of revenue intelligence officials stepped up the investigation to ascertain her possible role and network with the International gold smuggling ring.
Ranya Rao was under radar for due to her frequent travel history to gulf countries since January this year .
The DRI used to keep a watch on her movements and people she is meetings before zeroing in on her .
The officials also suspected the role of family members as Ranya used official favours and protocols at the airports to avoid physical checks and other unnecessary checks .
According to the official release,the DRI officials acting on specific intelligence,intercepted Ranya Rao,who had arrived from Dubai to Bengaluru via Emirates flight on March 3,2025.
Upon examination,gold bars weighing 14.2 kg were found ingeniously concealed on person.She had used crape bandage too and tapes to wrap the valuables around her body .
The contraband,valued at ₹12.56 Crore was seized under the provisions of the Customs Act,1962.
Following the interception,DRI officers conducted a search at her residential premises located at Lavelle Road,Bengaluru,where she resides with her husband.
The search resulted in the seizure of gold Jewellery worth ₹2.06 crore and Indian currency amounting to ₹ 2.67 crore following which she has been arrested .
The total seizure in the case stands at ₹17.29 Crore, marking a significant blow to organised gold smuggling networks.
The haul of 14.2 kg is one of the biggest seizures of gold at Bengaluru International airport in recent times, the official release,said.
