irector General of Police,Ramachandra Rao step father of Ranya Rao,a prime accused in the gold smuggling case is in the dock now after the state government ordered a detailed probe and appointed senior IAS officer to probe the misuse of protocol which helped the accused to bypass security checks .
The government in a separate order the government had directed the Criminal Investigation department to probe the possible negligence and dereliction on part of the police personnel and submit a report .
In the first order,the government appointed,Gaurav Gupta,Additional Chief Secretary,to probe the misuse and the role of Ramachandra Rao.Mr.Gupta was asked to initiate the report and submit the report in a week time .
The accused Ranya Rao,33,a Kannada film actor was arrested on March 3 red handed with gold biscuits wrapped in her body parts soon after she landed from Dubai .
The DRI officials recovered 14.2 kg of Foreign-origin Gold Bars worth ₹12.56 crore.
The DRI also found that she had used her father’s name to obtain an escort from the Airport police station allowing her to skip frisking and checks.
The officials also found that Ranya Rao was frequent traveller and had travelled to Dubai and other countries frequently to smuggle gold.
Considering the international ramification and political slugfest, the CBI also initiated a probe.With this the case has gained prominence and probably the first case where DRI,CBI,CID and a senior IAS officer probing the same case parallelly.
