Two women one of them is four month pregnant were killed in a freak accident when an electric pole fell on them on Sudduguntepalya Main Road in Baiyappanahalli on Monday night.
The deceased have been identified as Sumathi and Soni, aged around 32 to 35 years.
Senior officer said the duo was passing by on the road where repair work was on.An earthmover engaged in the work went into reverse gear and crashed into an electric pole,which collapsed owing to the impact of the collision.
This pole fell on the two women who were passing by. Both sustained severe head injuries.They were rushed to a nearby private hospital,but were declared brought dead.Other people at the site had a narrow escape.
The passers by shouted at the driver to alert him but he could not hear them as he was wearing head phone.
The Baiyappanahalli police rushed to the spot and arrested the driver of the earthmover and seized the vehicle.
A case of death due to negligence has been registered against the driver for further investigation.
