Public outrage will throw away this government, opined Bommai
The Congress-led state government is looting the public by passing on the burden of its corruption to the people through increased taxes and price hikes.
However, public outrage will ultimately uproot this government, warned former CM and Haveri-Gadag Lok Sabha member Basavaraja Bommai.
Participating in an overnight dharna satyagraha organized by the Bharatiya Janata Party at Mylara Mahadevappa Circle in Haveri to protest the price hike and anti-people policies of the state government on Thursday,he said he had never seen such a bad government in the history of Karnataka. This is the worst administration ever.
Even the Chief Minister’s financial advisor and senior Congress MLA Basavaraj Rayareddy has openly admitted that Karnataka ranks number one in corruption. If the Chief Minister has any morality left,he should either resign or remove his financial advisor.
He further stated that daily corruption in the CM’s office is evident. It’s not just Rayareddy, other senior Congress MLAs have also publicly stated that they are ashamed to face the people.
Even the contractors’association working with the government has claimed that this government has broken all previous records of corruption.
The MP said when he became Chief Minister, the contractors’ association, under Congress pressure, alleged that there was a 40 per cent commission in his government. ”
I challenged them to provide evidence, and promised an investigation, but they failed to produce any.Two years have passed since the formation of the Justice Nagamohan Das-led commission, yet the contractors have not submitted any documents.
The commission’s report also found no evidence, proving the allegations were false. Now,the same contractors are calling this a 60 per cent commission government.
Even excise contractors have claimed massive corruption in the excise department.Electric contractors allege bribes of Rs.5,000–6,000 just to install meters,”he said.
Loot continues
The former CM said the looting has not stopped in this government. Excise duty has been increased twice in one year, burdening daily laborers.
Milk prices were raised without giving the Rs. 500 crore incentive to farmers—this too is passed on to the common people.
The government isn’t funding electronic meter installations; instead, it’s extracting money from the public.
BJP has launched a ‘Janakrosha Yatra’ across Karnataka to awaken the people. It will reach Haveri on April 21.A large number of people must join to fight against this corrupt and oppressive government.
Bommai criticised Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for claiming his budget had no tax burdens. Within 10 days of budget approval, they increased taxes.
It’s a budget that crushes common people with taxes. Last year alone, they imposed an additional Rs. 40,000 crore in taxes. This year’s budget deficit is Rs. 26,000 crore, while last year it was Rs.16,000 crore.
When we left power, we had Rs.25,000 crore in the treasury. In his earlier term, Siddaramaiah announced schemes worth over Rs.1 lakh crore without allocating funds and left Rs.45,000 crore worth of pending bills,” he claimed.
CM is an expert borrower
“This year, the government has borrowed Rs.1.16 lakh crore, and last year, Rs.1.5 lakh crore. The state’s total debt now stands at Rs.7.5 lakh crore, out of which Rs.4.5 lakh crore was borrowed by Siddaramaiah.
He is a ‘loan expert’,and should teach others how to borrow. Each citizen of Karnataka is now burdened with Rs.1 lakh in debt—even newborns are in debt.
They are making our children debtors.Farmers say that student scholarships for their children have been stopped. This government doesn’t care about farmers—they only want their crops.
Despite droughts, no compensation was given. They are planning to install meters even on farmers’ pump sets. During our tenure,Yediyurappa provided free electricity up to 10 HP without meters.
We also gave diesel subsidies for tractors and oil engines. This government has withdrawn all such subsidies and support,”Bommai said.
Not reaching people
He said the state government is not implementing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s schemes.Though the central government sanctioned 17 lakh houses, people haven’t received them.
The 5 kg rice currently distributed is also from the central government. The state merely renamed it ‘Anna Bhagya’.The state has no rice of its own.
There have been rice thefts in Haveri, and when people tried to catch the culprits, they were attacked. Unfortunately, no one was arrested.
There’s no law and order in the state.Crime is rampant—murders, lootings, and rapes are happening. There’s no fear of the law or the police.
Because of transfer scams, gambling and matka are operating openly.Congress leaders are encouraging more clubs and vices in society to earn money.
The Home Minister himself trivialized sexual crimes against women by calling them ‘normal in big cities.’If this is the Home Minister’s attitude, what can we expect from the government in terms of women’s safety?”he questioned.
Even Air Is Taxed :
“In Bengaluru, there is tax on even garbage.Corruption exists even in cremation services.Soon they might tax the air we breathe.
Despite all this, people ask what the central government is doing.Every year,it gives Rs.63,000 crore in tax devolution to the state.
Rs.7,000 crore for railways,Rs.50,000 crore interest-free for 50 years,Rs.6,000 crore for Smart City project.Under PMGSY, Garib Kalyan Yojana, fertilizer subsidy, and Jal Jeevan Mission, the central government contributes 50%,”Bommai said.
Waqf Amendment for Minority Welfare
He pointed out that the central government has amended the Waqf Act for the welfare of minorities. Some claim that the Parliament and Vidhana Soudha belong only to one group.
They argue that the Waqf Act is above the Constitution. To counter this extreme appeasement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have taken corrective measures, and we must fully support them.
The current government’s corruption, injustice, and inefficiency have pushed public outrage to its peak.
This anger will ultimately bring down this government. This is not the end—it is the beginning. In 2028, we will bring back a pro-people government,” he declared.
BJP District President,Arun Kumar Pujar, former ministers,B.C.Patil,former MLAs,Shivraj Sajjan, Veerupakshappa Ballari, youth leader,Bharath Bommai, along with BJP office bearers, leaders from all taluks in Haveri district, and women’s wing members participated. Prior to the event,a garland was placed on the statue of martyr Sri Mylara Mahadevappa.
