Karnataka govt orders to distribute sweets in Karnataka prisons on Ambedkar Jayanti, Buddha Poornima

Following a demand from the city based social activist , the state government has issued a order directing the prison department to include Dr.Ambedkar birth anniversary and Buddha Poornima to provide sweets to the inmates.

According to the government order,the prison department has 15 such occasion in a year to provide sweets on 15 special days including republic Day,Ugadi, Basava Jayanthi,Independence Day,Ramazan,Vijaya Dashami,Gandhi Jayanthi,Kannada Rajyotsava, Christmas,New year,Bakrid,Sankranti,Deepawali,East and Gauri Ganesha.

Considering the two other important events being ignored Narasimhamurthy filed a petition demanding to including these two important events as a tribute and their contribution to social justice,equality and rights of marginalized .

Petition has been with the chief minister and home minister with a demand to stage hunger strike if the demands are not met .

Considering the appeal state government has decided to include the two events to provide sweets for the inmates every year on April 14 and May 12 which cost rupees five crore to the state exchequer under diet expenses .
