Farmer shot at by stone quarry during clash over quarry road construction

Tension gripped at Manchehalli village after a 38-year-old farmer shot at by a stone quarry when a group of villagers protested against construction of the road for quarry stone transportation.

The farmers of Manchehalli and environment protection committee opposed the construction of road for trucks to transport quarry stones alleging that it will lead to water air pollution and also affect the fodder and crop due to the dust.

However the quarry owner objected to their protest and both the group went to the local station for a peace meeting.

The police chaired the meeting two days ago pacified both the owner and the villagers asking them to approach the court to resolve the issue.

However on Wednesday Saklesh S,owner of the quarry came along with his supporters and JCBs to construct the road for the stone quarry transportation.

The villagers gathered and heated argument ensure following which Saklesh sustained injury allegedly due to stone pelting.

Enraged Saklesh pulled out his licensed revolver and fired few rounds in the air and one at the farmers group .

As a result Ravikumar,a 38-year-old farmer sustained injuries on his leg and collapsed.

Sensing trouble Saklesh escaped in the car and got himself admitted to the hospital.

The Chikkaballapur rural police rushed to the spot and later arrested Saklesh charging him under attempt to murder,unlawful assembly,rioting,voluntarily causing hurt and under arms act .

He was arrested and the weapon seized for further investigation, Superintendent of Police,Kushal Chowksey, said.
