KOLKATA:-What Mamata Banerjee says,Mamata Banerjee does!After many years again at Kolkata,a major street hawker eviction drive has been started by Mamta Banerjee’s government on Tuesday morning.
People’s Chief Minister is now becoming the strict administrator who always thinks for her states betterment.
Today,the hawker eviction drive was being conducted on the Kolkata’s hawking hubs in Gariahat,Hatibagan, New Mareket,Raja Bazar,Bhowanipur,Behala,Sealdah, Padmapukur by the Kolkata police along with civic volunteers.
This was altogether a six hours’operations and by the end of the six hours,few of the hawkers are being detained by the Kolkata police and all illegal hawkers were removed.
In this drive,several of the TMC Hawker Union leaders were also present with the Police.The most of the roads,pavements are being encroached by the hawkers and it is really difficult to walk on those roads.
As usage of plastic is band at Kolkata but a section of hawkers is not at all maintaining the said guidelines fixed by the State Government and making mess in the city.
The police have removed the illegal sheds,plastics and encroachments in the areas like Rajabazar,Paddapukur Road.New Market near the KMC head office.
The police have conducted a surprised raid and have removed all the hawkers who were illegally grabbing the pavements.
The Chief Minister has also told if any new hawker trying to encroach any of the places will be immediately arrested. Even, if any councillor,MLA found involved will be arrested.
Mamata Banerjee directed the Police and the Secretary of the Department of Urban Development & Municipal Affairs to identify hawking and non-hawking zones in each district.
She instructed State Ministers to convene with the Justice of Calcutta High Court and the Bar Council to address issues related to illegal land encroachment.
Additionally,she tasked the Fire Department with identifying vulnerable buildings, ensuring a focus on safety and preparedness.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee chaired an emergency meeting on Thursday over the eviction of hawkers from footpaths and illegal encroachment on government land across the state.
In the meeting,Chief Minister Banerjee issued a one-month notice to hawkers to clear the footpath and the parts of the roads they have encroached on.
She formed a committee to conduct a survey regarding this issue of the hawker’s encroachment and submit a report to her office within 15 days.
