A 45-year-old gram panchyath member was hacked to death near the office in Bailanarasapura on Sunday evening.
The deceased Afaq,a landlord and businessman was busy talking to his friend outside the office when armed gang attacked him and fled the scene.
Passers by rushed the profusely bleeding afaq to MVG hospital where the doctor declared him dead on arrival.
The Nandagudi police rushed to the spot and conducted a detailed investigation.
The police also identified the assailants and suspected that personal rivalry could be the reason behind the murder.
The police formed a special team to track down the accused who are now on the run.
