Diwali Disaster:Labourer Dies After Sitting On Firecracker Box To Win Bet,Six Friends Arrested by Konanakunte police

32-year-old labourer was killed in a tragic way on Deepawali while he accepts challenge to sit on a bursting cracker after his friend offer to gift him autorickshaw as bet.

The incident occurred at the Weaver’s Colony in Konanakunte,on thursday night and the entire thing was captured on a neighbour’s CCTV camera.

The deceased a victim has been identified as,Shabari,Murugesh,(32),

Senior officer said,that the deceased was drunk and sat on a container covered with a box of crackers placed and lit by his friends.

The prime accused identified as Naveen(26),an autorickshaw driver along with seven others threw a challenge at Sabari offering him his autorickshaw driver as bet if he sat on the container with burning crackers .

Deputy Commissioner of Police, South,Lokesh Bharmappa Jagalsar told reporters all of the friends including Sabari were intoxicated.

Sabari,excited about the offer accepted the challenge and sat on the container while his friend lit the crackers and ran away .

Soon the crackers burst Sabri fell on the ground and sustained multiple burn injuries.Neighbours rushed to his help and shifted him to Victoria hospital where he succumbed on Saturday .

Based on the complaint by,Vijaya,mother of the victim, the Konanakunte police have registered a case and arrested the accused Naveen,Dinakar,Satyavelu,Karthik, Satish and Santosh charging them under section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and section 288 (negligent handling of explosive substances. ).

Vijaya,a domestic help,was living with Shabri after the death of her husband Murugesh.He was drunk and was at home having dinner.

He went out to join Naveen and others in the neighbourhood who were bursting crackers .

The accused Naveen lured him to gift his autorickshaw if he dares to take up the challenge and sit on the container with burning crackers .

Shabri who was under the influence of alcohol took up the challenge not aware of the consequences,Ms.Vijaya, said in her complaint .
