Labourer tries to ‘molest’ stray dog in an inebriated state arrested by Channapatna police

Villagers of Channapattana rural caught a 55-year-old labourer trying to molest a stray dog on roadside in an inebriated state on Saturday.

The accused Basavaraju,was thrashed black and blue and handed over to the police who have registered a case charging him under section section 296 (obscene act ) and 62 ( punishment for attempt to commit suicide ) under BNS.

Senior officer told reporters,Basavaraju,is a migrant labourer from Ballari living in a makeshift houses on roadside near Kanva Layout,was caught by a boy passing by while molesting a dog .

The accused shouted and tried to assault the boy. Scared by this the boy ran away and informed the people who were sitting at the roadside tea shop.

The people rushed to the spot and caught Basavaraj red handed and thrashed him before alerting the Hoysala patrolling vehicle .

The accused also filed a counter complaint accusing the group of people for assaulting him mistaking him for molesting the dog.

“I was in an inebriated state sleeping on road side after removing my under garment while a stray dog was also lying next to me .

People who saw this,mistaken as obscene act and assaulted me black and blue”,he told the police , requesting the police to take action.

Based on the complaint the police have registered an FIR against the unknown people charging them under wrongful restrain,voluntary causing hurt, intentional insult to provoke breach of peace,criminal intimidation and criminal act with common intention for further investigation.

The news of Basavaraju arrested for “molesting stray dog spread like a wild fire and the villagers are now demanding eviction of labourers make shift houses citing their perverse act which pose threat to the safety of school children moving in the area.
