16 ABVP workers booked by cottonpet police for protesting against Metro fare hike in Karnataka

The Cottonpet police detained as many as 16 members of Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad for staging a protest in front of KG road metro station against the metro train price hike on Friday morning.

Based on the complaint filed by Rangappa D,Assistant Sub Inspector,the protestors were charged with section 198 (unlawful assembly ),223 (disobey orders given by public servants) and also under various sections of Karnataka Police Act.

The protestors gathered outside the metro station and shouted slogans against the government for increasing the fares .

The police reached the spot and tried to disperse the protestors citing High Court order on protesting in public places and detained them when they refused to oblige to the police.

The protestors were later taken to City armed Reserve grounds,and booked a case before registering an FIR against them.

They were later arrested and released on bail with a stern warning not to violate the bail condition.

In another incident,the cubbon park police stopped a group of activists for organizing signature campaign outside metro station on Church street against metro fair hike .

Heated arguments ensued when the police stopped them from signature campaign since they did not have required permission as per the HC order .

The police seized the material and warned them with legal action and dispersed them.
