n a special drive was conducted on Saturday regarding traffic rule violations by e-commerce delivery riders.
The traffic police booked 1859 delivery executives involved in various traffic violations and slapped a fine of Rs.9.6 lakh.
Among the violations 582 cases belonging to riding without helmet,389 cases against riding in no entry zones and 354 against riding in one way.
The drive will continue to ensure traffic discipline among the gig workers,who contribute major percentage of traffic violations due to inordinate hurry to deliver goods on time..
Meanwhile,Joint commissioner of police,Traffic,MN Anucheth said that there is a viral video doing rounds in social media that traffic police are seizing yellow board vehicles being used for e-commerce delivery.This is absolutely false and nothing to do with the special drive .
Special drives are taken up regularly by BTP to physically enforce certain type of traffic violations. Yesterday also cases were booked for visible traffic violations by all types of vehicles including those used e-commerce delivery, irrespective of the colour of the vehicle’s number plate.
Also,yesterday, specifically for e-commerce delivery agents, after imposing the fine,a class in obeying traffic rules and safety was imparted to them, Mr.Anucheth, said .
