A software engineering based in Mandya was arrested for creating a fake Twitter handle and tweeting under the guise of the Office of the Chief Minister.
The media advisor to the Chief Minister of Karnataka lodged complaint at Cyber Crime Police Station, CID on Thursday stating that that a fake Twitter account of the CM was created (@cmofkarnatka) by some unknown person.
The accused, has been identified as Madhusudan, 30, has been arrested for creating a fake Twitter account of Siddaramaiah and tweeting content on behalf of the Chief Minister’s office, said the Cyber Crime Police in a statement here. A complaint was registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station in the city against the accused on a complaint by the Chief Minister’s media advisor that a fake Twitter account was created in the name of Siddaramaiah and tweets were posted on his behalf. The accused hails from Mandya, about 100 km from Bengaluru. “Madhusudan admitted to creating the Twitter account in the Chief Minister’s name and tweeting on his behalf. He also removed some posts from the handle to cover up the tracks,” added the statement.
Senior officer said The media advisor to the Honourable Chief Minister of Karnataka had lodged complaint at Cyber Crime Police Station, CID, on 29-12-2016, stating that that a fake twitter account of the honourable CM was created (@cmofkarnatka) by some unknown person and was tweeting contents as if it was tweeted by the office of the chief minister. Based on a complaint a special team was formed, A team comprising of Sri. M.D.Sharath-DySP, Sri.Krishnoji Rao-CHC,Sri. S.K.Shivakumar-CPC,Sri. G.Munirathnam-CPC, Sri.V.Srinath Reddy-CPC and Sri. Vinod Kumar -CPC of Cyber Crime Division of CID arrested the accused, a person by name Madhusudan-a software engineer, resident of Mandya was traced and was arrested in the evening of 30th June.During the course of interrogation he confessed the crime and revealed that he had created the above said twitter account and had tweeted. he later renamed it as @nanegadappa and also removed identifiables from the said account to cover up the tracks .A case in Crime No. 78-2016 u/s. 66c of IT Act 2000 and 469 IPC was registered and taken up for investigation and finally DG&IGP, Rupak kumar Dutta with DGP CID, Kishore Chandrashekar, has appreciated M Chandrasekhar, inspector general of police, CID (economics wing) M.D.Sharath,DySP, Sri.Krishnoji Rao-CHC,Sri.S.K.Shivakumar-
