Notorious Serial Chain Snatcher nabbed by Kengeri and Jnanabharathi Cops in Bengaluru :
A notorious serial chain snatcher nabbed by Kengeri and Jnanabharathi police after a dramatic chase in a joint operation.
The accused has been identified as Achyuth Kumar Gani aged about 31 year old.
Sub inspector,Praveen Yelligar opened fire as accused tired to attack head constable Chandra Kumar to evade arrest.
Accused Achyuth Kumar Gani involved in more than 70 cases.
Cops opened fire at Achyuth when he tried to escape.incident took place at 5:40 am at Kodipalya on nice road.
Head constable Chandra Kumar C tried to stop Achyuth who was moving in a black pulsar bike.
Achyuth was taken into custody by jnanabharathi cops last night.
Accused tried to escape when he was being taken to Kumbalgodu police station.
It was a joint operation done by west division police of Jnanabharathi police and Kengeri police have opened fire on a notorious serial chain-snatcher and shot at his right leg when he allegedly resisted arrest and attacked them on Monday morning.
The accused,a wanted criminal has been identified as,Achyuth Kumar, 31, is a resident of Kaniminike,Kumbalagodu. He is suspected of being involved in more than 100 chain-snatching cases in Bengaluru and Tumakuru over the last few years.This is the first time he has been arrested.
Senior officer, told media persons that, Chandra Kumar, a head constable attached to Jnanabharathi police station, was on a night round on Sunday when he found the movement of a biker suspicious.He chased the biker and came close to nabbing him. However, the biker attacked him with a knife then Chandra Kumar sought reinforcements.The team chased the biker and caught him. He was identified as Achyuth Kumar.Later in the night, when the police escorted him to his house to conduct the panchanama and recover stolen chains,and later he was subjected to interrogation and they were escorting him to kumbalagodu as the vehicle neared Kengeri satellite town he allegedly asked them to stop and let him go to the nature’s call.He used the opportunity to flee from custody.This happened around 2.30 a.m.As soon as the incident was reported more force rushed to spot and our team combed the entire area for two hours.Suddenly, he attacked the police by throwing stones.After which the PSI fired a few rounds in the air and asked him to surrender,he attacked our Crime team ASI Veerabhadraiah,following which our PSI,Praveen Yeligar shot at his leg and he suffered bullet injury on his right leg he was then overpowered by the team and arrested and both the cops and accused were rushed to nearby hospital for treatment and during the course of investigation it was revealed that the accused is a notorious criminal and was absconding from past many years and he is a professional robber with several cases against him he added.
Modus Operandi :
The accused Achyuth Kumar Gani Modus Operandi was he mainly targeted lonely elderly women while they are on their morning or putting rangoli in front of their house in the pretext of asking address and time he would snatch their gold chains and escape. His main target were lonely women because they cannot resist or run so he used to target lonely women but this time his luck got failed when cops nabbed him.
DCP West Division,Ravi.D. Channannavar,who visited the spot to collect the stock of the situation and after visiting hospital to see the condition of cop and accused he told media persons that,Last night,police successfully nabbed a chain snatcher at Kenchanapura cross in Kengeri under Jnanabharathi police station limits.Right before nabbing him the accused attacked our personnel with a dagger.But our cops managed to chase him down and arrested the accused.The accused escaped from our personnel at 2:30 am, in the morning under the pretext of nature’s call when police finally went to nab him he again attacked ASI Veerabhadra, in an act of self-defense the police fired in the air but he didn’t surrender so PSI,Praveen shot at his right leg with his service revolver a case has been registered in Kengeri police station and further investigation is on and finally Bengaluru Police Commissioner,T Suneel Kumar,Addl CP West,B K Singh,has appreciated DCP West,Ravi D Channannavar,and his team as,ACP Kengerigate,Dr.Prakash,PIs,as, Veerendra Prasad,Ramakrishnaiah,Shekar, PSIs,as, Praveen Yelligar,Hanumantha Sheerahotti,ASI, Veerabhadraiah,Crime staff as,Chandra Kumar,Suresh,Harish,Ravi,and other crime staff who has been successful in arresting the notorious serial chain snatcher and a reward of Rs.1 lakh has been announced for Chandra Kumar C,the head constable who caught the notorious serial chain-snatcher by playing on his life and a one month leave also given to him he added.
