dditional Director General of Police,Internal Security Division,Amrit Paul who was heading recruitment Division having office in the CID headquater is now sitting in interrogation cell in the same premises after being taken by the CID sleuths into custody till July 13.
The arrest happened based on Statement given by two constables and the CID team gathered evidence and based on report and as he dint cooperate to investigation has been arrested to ascertain his role in the scam said a senior officer.
Probe so far revealed that Amrit Paul had given the keys of the strong room to his assistant DySP, Shanthkumar who along with three of his associates tampered the OMR sheets after switching off the CCTV connection.
Sources said as many as 30 aspirants have paid the money ranging from Rs.30 to Rs.40 lakh to Shanthakumar to get into the topper list.
Shanthkumar roped in FDA Harsha,and RSI Sridhar and Srinivas to help him and placed different role in filling the blank OMR sheets to switching off the CCTV cameras .
Sources even said ever since Amrit Paul was promoted from East zone IGP to ADGP and posted to head the recruitment division in 2020, DySP Shanthkumar who was working in the division over a decade became close to such an extent that he took over all the responsibilities of the department from preparation of question papers,selection of centers,Printing question
papers and supply of OMR sheets.
Shanthkumar took charge of the strong room in CID annex building where the OMR sheets were stored under tight security .
Since he was in charge,Shanthkumar along with his associates went to the strong room and tampered .
Using this opportunity Shanthkumar also clinched the deal with the candidates and collected money and also allegedly shared with Amrit Paul.
However, the government stood firm and said it will conduct the exam afresh later. While the opposition accused the involvement of high-profile people in the government, Home Minister Araga Jnanendra had said: “A fair investigation will be conducted sparing none, however high and mighty they are.”
