hief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said the excess water from Bheemeshwara River and tank due to heavy rains on Sunday night,has entered T.K.Halli Pumphouse and damaged two pumphouses of Bangalore Water Supply & Sewerage Board.
Speaking after inspecting water-logged two pumphouses at Todekaadanahalli in Malavalli taluk of Mandya district on Monday,he said the River Bheemeshwara overflowed following heavy rains and that water has entered water supply unit causing heavy damage.
This river has received so much of water after 75 years.
The rain water has entered two pumphouses of the total five units. There are 1,450 MLD capacity pump houses and 550 and 350 MLD capacity units.
Another 550 MLD capacity pumphouses have started functioning and supplying water continuously to Bengaluru.
The work of repairing two water-logged pumphouses was on.Already, 12 feet of water has been drained out from Stage 4 pumphouse and still 11 feet of water has to removed.This work is expected to be completed by midnight or on Tuesday morning, he added.
Bommai said the 350 MLD capacity pumphouse will start functioning after the dry run of the machinery and it will ensure more water for Bengaluru.
As a permanent measure to check water-logging, a concrete wall will be constructed around the pumphouse.
It has been raining heavily across the state and all tanks and water bodies are full.The rain water and overflowing water from tanks are creating flood-like situation.Officials concerned have been asked to be careful.
