C M calls to follow Basavanna’s ideology, thinking; to build an equal society.
The 12th century social reformer Basavanna did not belong to any caste or community and they must strive hard to build an equal society as wished by him said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.
Speaking at the silver jubilee celebrations of Akhila Bharath Veerashaiva/Lingayat Mahasabha here on Saturday,he said it is a good decision by Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji of Suttur Mutt for uniting all the Veerashaiva associations and organisations to celebrate Basava Jayanthi jointly which is indeed a model.
Devotees, who have faith in Basavanna’s thinking must ponder over this.
Build equal society
The CM said Basavanna’s fight for caste-less and genderless society 900 years has relevance even today. Now they have to think how much they have defended it.
Society would have been different if there was no blind belief, gender disparity and casteism. We must all make efforts to build that society built by Basavanna and it is possible if they tread the path of equality.Need of the hour is to banish economic and social disparity from society”.
Share for everyone in economic devpt
Bommai said everyone must get the share in economic development and build the ‘Kayaka samaj’ as propagated by Basavanna who had said ‘Kayakave Kailasa’ (Work is Worship).
Along with it, he implemented the ‘Dasoha’ system. Basavanna and other sharanas have made significant contributions to Kannada language.
After the original literature of Karnataka, Vachana Sahitya and Dasa Sahitya too have enriched Kannada.
Akka Mahadevi is the best example for what will happen if women are given equal opportunity.Kittur Rani Chennamma,Keladi Chennamma and Belavadi Mallamma are the sources of inspiration for them. ‘Linga Puja’ is a beautiful concept and they must think about it in the current time.
Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji of Suttur Mutt, Co-Operation and District-In-Charge Minister S.T.Somashekar, MLA L Nagendra and others were present.
