Posing as policemen cyber crook cheat home maker and made away Rs.90,990 from her account on Wednesday.
The Southeast division cyber crime police have registered a case based on the complaint filed by Sayyali Manohar Nagpure and efforts are on to track down the accused .
Ms.Sayyali in her complaint said that the accused posing as police officer called her to inform that there was a parcel in her name from a courier agency containing banned items.
The caller claiming to be police officer informed her that they are investigating and will come to question her.
When Ms.Sayyali demanded the proof about their identity,the accused sent the Id card of a police department on her mobile phone and later threatened to book her under drug case.
Shocked Sayyali pleaded innocence requesting for help, following which the accused on the pretext of bailing her out, accessed her bank account and transferred a total of Rs.90,990.
The fraud came to light when she discussed this with her family members and they tried to reach the number, but it was not reachable.
The police are now trying to track down the accused based on the contact number and the money transaction details.
This is not an isolated case,as many as seven cases of fake cops targeting gullible people and cheating them have been reported in and around the city in the last one month,a police officer,said .
People should be careful while talking to strangers on phone and should not entertain and share any personal information even if they claim to be police officer or officials from any government agencies,a senior officer,said .
