Abhijit Ray, Kolkata:The demand for a separate Gorkhaland is rising again in Darjeeling city. CPIM party also supported the said demand from the same stageBimal Gurung, Vinay Tamang, Ajay Edward along with CPM district secretary Saman Pathak were seen on the same stage at the public meeting at the Capital Hall on Sunday. There the demand for Gorkhaland arose and about a separate Gorkhaland, the demand was on everyone’s lips. Some of them said directlyand somehave said indirectly but demand was the same.However, Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha president Aneet Thapa criticized this public meeting. He said, “It is not a platform for the movement of Gorkhaland.Top Hill leaders were present in that meeting at the Capital Hall. Although their party is not in power in the hills but everyone has built the ‘Gorkha Swabiman Manch’ together. The leadership claims that the platform will protest for a separate state of Gorkhaland. Gorkha Janmukti Morcha supremo Bimal Gurung said, “Gorkhaland is needed in the hills for the sake of Gorkhas.” We will protest on that demand. But there will be no violent movement. President of Hamro Party Ajay Edward said, “Gorkhaland movement should be based on intelligence. For the mountain, the demand must be met. We hear North Bengal will be a separate state. If that happens, there will be damage to the hills.” Although he clearly explained the supporters of Gorkhaland. He said, “This is our struggle for the honor of Gorkhas. We want Gorkhas to live with self-respect. That is why we have to agitate for what is needed.’ CPIM have spoken about the honor and future of Gorkhas.Alok Chakraborty, Chairman of Darjeeling District Trinamool, criticized the CPM in this incident and said, “In opposing the Trinamool, the CPIM &BJP has taken the hand of the Congress in some places. So, it is nothing new. TMC leader Ashok Bhattacharya said sarcastically that CPIM are not supporters of Gorkhaland. But their party secretary is present in the meeting. In fact, the leftist party has now gone astray. So, they shake hands with whoever they get.”The political debate surrounding about this Capital Hall meeting is clear that now again, the demand of sepratted Gorkhaland is going to be raised . Whether the CPM is supporting Gorkhaland’s demand is also a question.
