Picturesque Jampui Hill is ready to take part in the festival of democracy sans all the bitter and noisy propaganda. While the rest of the State is abuzz with political sloganeering and high-pitched fierce political campaigns, people in the abode of peace – Jampui hill – are far away from such campaigns and living their life amidst nature’s beauty calmly and peacefully. However, as per the rules and regulations, security personnel were deployed there and the security men of Punjab Police and other agencies deputed in Jampui Hill are having a wonderful experience. Peace-loving Mizo people of the State have set a shining example of peace, tranquillity and hospitality by creating a friendly relationship with the security personnel and engaging with the jawans with sports, jungle trekking, nature walks and just friendly chats in tea stalls. Last weekend in a friendly volleyball match was held between the Punjab Police and Behliangchhip Branch Young Mizo Association (YMA), which the latter won by 1-2 in a hotly contested match in front of a large audience. In fact, the crowd was larger and more enthusiastic than the few that gathered in any election rally organised by any of the party candidates. The forces sent in the Jampui Hill for peacekeeping do not have much work to do as the Hill is by nature is peaceful which even this year’s high-octane election campaigns and keen electoral battle fail to disturb. And, another laudable initiative is that to make the festival of democracy – polling – more attractive, the Mizo youths are going to offer hot tea and snacks to every voter on February 16 as they come to cast their votes for the candidate of their choice.
