There is a need for improving police capabilities in nabbing interstate criminals and gangs,devising mechanisms to curb the radicalization of prisoners, Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah,said .
Addressing the interactive sessions at the Karnataka state one-day conference of all the DGPs of southern states as well as senior officers from central police organisations,held at ITC gardenia here on Wednesday,
CM Siddaramaiah,emphasized on the growing menace of cybercrime threats,new challenges of cross-border narcotics trafficking,and still continuing issue of left-wing extremism.
He also stressed on the importance of training and capacity building and greater utilization of scientific aids in dealing with emerging crimes.
In all this,coordination across states is essential and he appreciated the efforts made by police officers in coming together for the conference.
The CM encouraged the delegates to share information and assistance for better coordination.
Home minister,Dr.G Parameshwar,also spoke on the occasion,advised the participants to harness modern technology in tackling terrorism,extremism,organized crime and maintaining public order.
He also stressed that police officers should also develop commitment towards transparency, accountability,and community engagement.
He also emphasised that it is crucial to prioritize collaboration and information sharing and synergise different law enforcement organizations both at regional and national levels.
DGPs of all the southern states of Karnataka, Tamilnadu,Andhra Pradesh,Telangana,Kerala and Union territories of Puducherry and Andaman and Nicobar, along with regional heads of various Central Police Organizations,deliberated on various issues and policing challenges including Narcotics,Cybercrime, Left wing extremism,De-radicalisation as well as the issue of ll legal immigrants,Coastal security challenge.
The participants also discussed issues which have ramifications across the southern states,ways and means to have more effective and meaningful coordination to address the challenges through mutual cooperation.
The conference ended with the vote of thanks and roadmap for better coordination.
